Eating a Healthy Breakfast

Start Off Your Day Right!
The most important meal of the day is breakfast.  Breakfast is so crucial because it jump starts your metabolism and gives you energy to start your day.  Breakfast eaters often have an easier time maintaining their weight and often make healthier eating choices throughout their day.  Some important things to include in your breakfast are proteins and fiber.  Fiber can often be found in products that contain whole grain and is also found in fruits and vegetables.  Proteins can often be found in low fat meats, dairy, eggs and beans.  It is important to stay away from sugary cereals and syrups, as well as pastries and white breads.  Unlike fiber and protein which are digested slowly, the human body uses up these products much faster, causing you to be hungry and tired after only a couple hours after eating.  Below is a healthy breakfast recipe that is nutritional and healthy and a great way to start your day.

Breakfast Recipe: Oatmeal with Fruit

  • 1 cups rolled oats (quick or old-fashioned)
  • 1/2 cups fruit (blueberries, apples, strawberries, etc)
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon or honey
 Instructions
1. Empty oats into a microwave safe bowl.
2. Add 1/2 cup of milk and stir
3. Microwave on HIGH for 1 to 2 minutes and stir again.
 4. Remove bowl from microwave careful and let cool for 1 minute

  4. I plan on posting healthy options that the school offers in future blogs, but you can often find healthy meals for cheap. Oatmeal is very cheap and a quick on the go thing to have for breakfast but I will definitely take your comment into consideration for my future post thanks!

  5. I like this recipe! Especially because I can make it in the microwave. A lot of things are hard to make living in the dorms, so thanks!

  10. I like this idea! I propose one as well. I have been adding more protein to my diet, and some good eggs and bacon in the morning really keep me full for a while!

  11. I'm with Megan. Sometimes oatmeal is great but I love eggs or egg whites and hot sauce in the morning.

  12. Wow! You've already developed a strong fan base here, Shawn! Way to go.

I like your idea for a blog. The recipes are great! What I'd like to see next are some pics of you and/or your sister or a friend making and enjoying the food you talk about here or in future posts. Try to personalize the info in some way so we get a feel for you and your lifestyle.

Also, I'd stay away from this italics-looking Comic-sans-ish font. It's a bit hard to read. Avoid long chunks of text--break them down into shorter bits or lists. People tend to turn away from blocky reads and harder-to-read fonts.

    This is looking great, Shawn.
